Our Vision
The Kintyre Rainforest Alliance is building a thriving future for Kintyre’s temperate rainforest — where nature, people, and culture grow stronger together. Through community-led restoration, youth engagement, scientific research, and inclusive access to nature, we are reconnecting fragmented rainforest habitats and empowering local people to become long-term stewards of this globally rare ecosystem. By combining traditional knowledge, local voices, and collaborative action, we aim to make Kintyre a leading example of resilient rainforest conservation rooted in community ownership, wellbeing, and place-based identity.
Our Story
The Kintyre Rainforest Alliance began as a group of local people brought together by a shared passion for protecting Kintyre’s rare temperate rainforest. Recognising the vital role these habitats play in supporting biodiversity, capturing carbon, and improving community wellbeing, we came together to champion their restoration, protection, and long-term stewardship.
Since then, we have grown into a collaborative network, working closely with local community groups as well as regional and national partners to amplify impact and share knowledge. We are proud to be a named collaborating organisation with the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforests, marking an important step in our journey. Rooted in place and driven by community, we believe these globally important woodlands are essential to a healthier, more resilient future for both people and nature.
