Our Mission
To identify, protect and promote the regeneration and restoration of Kintyre’s temperate rainforests.
Goal One
We will work with communities across Kintyre, community groups, relevant agencies, individuals and businesses.
Goal Two
We will document, map and promote the temperate rainforests of Kintyre
Goal Three
What have we been doing?
We are mapping and recording the fragments of temperate rainforest on the Kintyre peninsula, carrying out lichen and bryophyte surveys, and recording rare lichens, liverworts, mosses and ferns on national databases.
Together with Kintyre Coastal Network, we have set up the East Kintyre Biosphere project with support from the Nature Restoration fund. This project is based around Carradale and Torrisdale Bays, and takes works from peatlands on the hills, through the temperate rainforests, to the seabed. Our aim is to protect and restore rainforest, seagrass and peatlands, using nature as our guide to what can thrive in each zone.
We have been spreading the word to the local community, through talks, school visits, and rainforest walks.
We have engaged with our local MSP, local and community councils, South Kintyre Development Trust, Carradale Community Trust, the Alliance for Scotlands Rainforests, Argyll Countryside Trust, Forestry and Land Scotland.
We have received generous support from Fauna and Flora to help with our set up and running costs.
